China wants to redefine the skies with a hypersonic aircraft!
The Chinese company Lingkong Tianxing Technology has unveiled a bold project: a hypersonic demonstrator capable of exceeding 5,000 km/h.
Called Cuantianhou ("flying monkey"), the prototype will be 7 meters long, weigh about 1.5 tons, and will be powered by a revolutionary engine: the Jindou-400S, which combines a rotary detonation, compressor, and ramjet in a system weighing just 100 kg, but with enough power to generate 4,000 newtons of thrust.
This will allow it to reach speeds close to Mach 4.2—almost 5 times faster than a commercial aircraft. The flight will begin with a rocket launch to an altitude of 20 km, from where it will continue autonomously through the upper atmosphere, between 20 and 100 km above sea level.
The first tests are scheduled for 2026, and the goal is even more ambitious: by 2030, launch the commercial version Dasheng ("Monkey King"), capable of shortening intercontinental trips to just 2 to 3 hours — compared to the current 10 hours or more.
