Norway Builds Tunnels under mountain first of its kind in the world

Norway is building the world’s first full-scale ocean tunnel that will let ships sail directly through a mountain. The tunnel will be 1.7 kilometers long and 36 meters wide, cutting through the Stad Peninsula, a dangerous area where the Norwegian Sea meets the North Sea. This region is known for rough waters, high waves, and accidents.

By creating a direct and safe passage, the project will save time, reduce risks, and improve transport efficiency for both cargo and passenger ships. Norwegian authorities say construction could start soon, with the tunnel expected to handle up to 120 ships daily. Researchers highlight it as a breakthrough in maritime engineering, showing how infrastructure can adapt to extreme natural conditions.
