If you have a project in mind to make the Geelong region a bit greener, more sustainable, or better equipped to handle climate change, this opportunity is tailored for you.

The City of Greater Geelong has officially opened applications for its Environmental

Sustainability Grants for 2026-2027. With a total funding pool of $70,000, local community

groups, charities, and schools can receive up to $10,000 to bring their eco-friendly ideas to life.

What Can You Fund?

The grant program is broken down into two distinct streams, depending on what your group is

trying to achieve:

● Project Grants (Up to $10,000): Perfect for planning, education, and organizing

community-led initiatives. Think native vegetation planting days, water conservation

workshops, or local biodiversity studies.

● Minor Capital Works Grants (Up to $10,000): Designed for small-scale infrastructure

or physical upgrades. This could include installing rainwater harvesting systems on a

community building, creating a sustainable community garden, or setting up renewable

energy upgrades.

Note: Your organization can only apply for one category per funding round, so pick the one that

aligns best with your immediate goals!

Who is Eligible?

This funding is specifically set aside to support grass-roots, community-driven progress. You

can apply if you are:

● An incorporated not-for-profit organization.

● An unincorporated group partnered with an auspice organization.

● A registered charity.

● A school or learning institution running an extra-curricular project that involves the wider

community.

Businesses, individuals, and sole traders are not eligible for this specific round.

Tips to Make Your Application Stand Out

Because the total pool is capped at $70,000, competition for these $10,000 blocks will be

tight. To put your best foot forward:

1. Be specific about the problem: Don't just say you want to plant trees. Explain why that

specific area needs biodiversity restoration or how it creates a greener public space.

2. Show measurable benefits: Estimate the impact. How many people will your program

reach? How much water will your project save?

3. Build a tight budget: Ensure your numbers add up perfectly. Avoid vague or missing line

items, as incomplete budgets are one of the most common reasons applications get

rejected.

Key Dates

● Applications Close: August 10, 2026

If you're ready to get started, head over to the official City of Greater Geelong website to

check the complete guidelines and submit your application. Let's make the region a cleaner,

greener, and more climate-resilient place together!
